Dental Checkups & Teeth Cleanings for Kids

Our team customizes each child’s routine dental visit to what they feel comfortable with. For example, if you have an infant or toddler that isn’t quite ready for a full-on dental checkup and teeth cleaning, we’ll tailor it to their needs and help them reach the point where they feel at-ease with a complete routine appointment. Once they reach this point, we’ll take X-rays of their mouth to check for any signs of impacted teeth or decay and polish and floss their teeth, helping them avoid developing oral health issues until the next time they see us!

Dental Sealants

Dental sealants are a highly effective, non-invasive preventive treatment that can drastically reduce the risk of cavities. By simply applying a clear coating over the biting surface of your child’s molars, we can keep food debris and bacteria from accumulating in the pits and grooves, leading to tooth decay. The sealants also make brushing more effective!

Fluoride Treatments

At the end of each of your child’s dental checkups and teeth cleanings, we’ll offer a fluoride treatment. Fluoride is a naturally derived mineral that’s produced by rocks and found in soil, fresh fruits and vegetables, and even water. It’s also added to local water sources and oral hygiene products because of its enamel-strengthening properties. This treatment only takes a second—we simply place a fluoridated gel onto their teeth to help protect them from cavities.

Athletic Mouthguards

Does your child play a contact sport that has you worried about their pearly whites? We offer customized, durable athletic mouthguards to help them play to their fullest potential and allow you to watch without stressing. We’ll simply capture an impression of their mouth and send it to our laboratory to craft an acrylic mouthguard. It will help protect their teeth and jawbone, minimizing the chances that your family could end up in the ER or emergency dental office.

Silver Diamine Fluoride

Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is an FDA-approved dental treatment that can stop tooth decay in its tracks as well as protect teeth from the threat of future cavities. We’ll painlessly apply the substance onto your child’s affected tooth for one minute and remove any excess with gauze. The process is completely pain-free and fast, so your child won’t have to fret if they have a cavity.

Thumb and Finger Sucking

Is your child two or older and hasn’t begun breaking oral habits like thumb-sucking or pacifier use? While these are completely natural coping skills that make them feel safe, as their oral development begins to ramp up, the constant pressure and force of sucking can cause them to develop orthodontic issues as they get older by altering the direction and angle in which their teeth grow in. Dr. Dean and our team at KC Kids Dental can help your child break these habits by providing helpful tips and tricks!
